Great GobiNational Reservation /GGNR/ has been established with “A” and ”B” two main regionsby the 84th resolution of Mongolian People's Assembly of Representative /MPAR/ with a main goal to protect north of Central Asia’s great desert, desert ecosystems and endangered wild animals such as Bactrian camel, Gobi Bear, wild horse, koulan, goitered gazelle, cheetah, cougar, wild sheep, mountain goat, houbara bustard, which are registered at Mongolian as well as International Red Book, their habitats and provide sustainable development.
Later this Area has been reapproved as Protected Area /PA/ by the Great Khural 26th resolution in 1995 due to its consistency with National Reservation criteria in accordance with Special Protected Area Law
Since 1992, Great Gobi Special Protected Area/GGSPA/ “B” region’s main goal has been changed into breeding and relocatingMongolian wild horses, which have been completely destroyed in their homelands, creating population with ability to live independently, studying and preserving Gobi, desert ecosystem and their natural forms
Minister of Environment’s 177th order in 1994 has determined the Protected Areas’ boundaries
By joining International Biosphere Reserve Network as United Nation’s Education, Culture and Science organization’s decision in 1991, we have gained vast opportunity to exchange scholarly information, study and protect central Asian desert ecosystem in international level
Establishing Protect Area is beneficial in preserving unique natural landscapes of Gobi, desert and protect and study biodiversity to be inherited to our next generation.
